 Dr Who season 6
Dr WhoAt the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Steven Moffat revealed that the upcoming 13-episode season of Doctor Who would be split down the middle into 7-episode spring arc and a 6-episode autumn storyline.

Moffat divulged that the break next season wouldn't be the dreaded mid-season hiatus, but rather a split between two distinct stories:

Looking at the next series I thought what this show needs is a big event in the middle [...] I kept referring to a mid-season finale. So we are going to make it two series â?? seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back. An enormous game-changing cliffhanger that will change everything. The wrong expression would be to say we are splitting it in two. We are making it two separate series [...] With an Easter series, an autumn series and a Christmas special, you are never going to be more than few months from the new series of Doctor Who [...] Tart that I am, we will now have two first nights and two finales, twice as many event episodes as we had before.
Moffat also discussed the show's budget ("I don't understand numbers. It's a decent budget. I beg for money and more rubber green people and eventually they say OK, you can have a third rubber green person.") and the prospects of seeing a Doctress:

I think about it sometimes and maybe it will happen someday. It wouldn't have been right this time [...] A woman can play the part. You have to remember the single most important thing about regeneration is you must convince the audience and the children that's it's not a new man, it's not a different man, it's the same one. It's a bigger ask if you turn him into a woman.
Finally, Moffat mentioned that he would be with Who for the long haul â?? he won't leave the program "for a while yet."

NBC Cancels "Heroes"

The network seriously mulled bringing back "Heroes" for a shortened season to wrap
up the serialized show, possibly as a two- or four-hour movie.

In the end, given the fairly high cost of the drama, the show's consistently declining
ratings and the number of new hour-longs coming to NBC next season, the network
decided the UMS-produced series wasn't worth an additional episode order.

Other Cancaled Shows; ABCâ??s FlashForward, Romantically Challenged, Better Off Ted and Scrubs have all been canned.

BBC drama to colonise new planet

A sci-fi series which sees humans attempt to populate another planet is being filmed for the BBC.

Among the Outcasts stars are Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius and Spooks actress Hermione Norris.

Currently filming in South Africa, the eight-part series will be set on the fictional Carpathia in 2040.

The series opens with a group of pioneers waiting to welcome other settlers to the planet, who will hopefully bring news of Earth.

Outcasts, which is due to screen on BBC One later in the year, has been created by Spooks writer Ben Richards.

Other actors joining the cast include Jamie Bamber, who appeared in cult US series Battlestar Galactica, and rapper-turned actor Ashley Walters, who recently starred in the BBC adaptation of Small Island.

Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama commissioning, said: "Outcasts is a richly intelligent, character led drama full of big ideas about what it is to be human told through thrilling and surprising stories that could only appear in this show."

The BBC Renews Doctor Who for a sixth Season.
Dr Who"Doctor Who" fans have only had a chance to see two minutes of Matt Smith as the new Doctor, but BBC is ready to extend his life.

The British broadcasting channel has reportedly given "Doctor Who" under new showrunner Steven Moffat a sixth-season order, a welcome reward for a show that is just finishing filming of its fifth season this week, according to Digital Spy.

The news reportedly came from series executive producer Piers Wenger, who added that BBC also wants another Christmas special for later this year, penned by Moffat himself.

Smith replaced David Tennant, who held the keys to the Tardis since Christopher Eccleston departed after a single season, the first of the revived "Doctor Who" series in 2005. Tennant has been The Doctor in every single Christmas special in the modern "Doctor Who" era, the first Christmas special being his first full episode following the first-season regeneration.

The announcement for a sixth season isn't too much of a surprise for many observers. BBC signed Smith to a three-year deal, reportedly for far less than what Tennant received in the role before. At the same time, "Doctor Who" remains popular internationally, especially in areas where BBC can sell the program, or even sell its own advertising blocks like it can with BBC America.

Also, a decision would likely have to be made based on past history of the show since filming for the sixth season would pick up in July, soon after the first season run ends on both BBC and BBC America.

In press materials released Friday by the BBC, Smith calls his version of The Doctor a "bit more reckless."

"He's a thrill-seeker and addicted to time travel," he said. "He is the mad buffoon genius who saves the world because he's got a great heart, spirit and soul but he also doesn't suffer fools."

Smith said he helped choose The Doctor's costume, and dismissed a number of items including a long leather coat, a long blue short, and "some short punky stuff."

"BUt then one day I brought in my braces and a tweed jacket and it went from there," he said. "Soon we had the whole outfit, although something still felt like it was missing and I asked if I could try a bow tie. At that point, the execs all bowed their heads in concern, but luckily when I tried it on, we agreed it worked and it has sort of become the signature of my Doctor now."

"Doctor Who" premieres April 3 on BBC and April 17 on BBC America.

 Patricia Arquette (Medium)

Watch CBS News Videos Online

(CBS) Emmy award winner Patricia Arquette knows a little something about the future -- or at least the character she plays on TV does.

On the CBS drama "Medium," Arquette plays a psychic whose visions help the Phoenix police department solve crimes.

Arquette's character is based on real-life psychic Allison DuBois, whom Arquette has met several times in person.

But does Arquette have any foresight like her character?

"All women have some of this," Arquette said.

However, she conceded that she probably doesn't have real psychic ability.

She joked, "I remember having a dream once that Al Gore won the presidency."

In addition to her work as an actress, Arquette is also devoted to work in Haiti. She's pitched in to help form the GiveLove Foundation, an organization that works to create housing for Haitians with discarded shipping containers, among other efforts.

Fox pulls out of Torchwood US remake
TorchwoodPlan to make a US version of the Doctor who spin-off Torchwood have been put on ice after TV network Fox pulled out.

In a statement, BBC Worldwide said both companies had "mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized Torchwood format". However, the BBC said discussions with other networks were continuing and plans to get the show made for US audiences were still in the pipeline.
The sci-fi drama, starring John Barrowman, has been a hit in the UK.

The show, which follows a group of secret agents battling human and alien enemies, began life on BBC Three in 2006.

It proved so popular that it was moved to BBC Two - and attracted another ratings boost when a third series was shown on BBC One last year.

However, the last move resulted in the series being cut from 13 episodes to five - allowing a single continuing story to be stripped across a week of programmes.

At the time, Barrowman criticised the decision, saying he felt like the show was "being punished".
BBC Worldwide is the commercial arm of the BBC.

15-year-old creates stunning Stargate panorama out of LEGO
FandomSource: Scifiwire.

Quote from ScifiWire "When I was 15, the most I could make out of my LEGOs was a gun, and even then, you probably wouldn't have been able to recognize it. Luckily, some 15-year-olds are a heck of a lot more talented than I was, like Sven Junga, who used LEGOs to create not only a spaceshipâ??the Daedalus from Stargate Atlantisâ??but also an amazing diorama of the ship landing.

And it turns out that's not the only sci-fi artifact re-created by Junga. Check out his flickr feed for more of his awesome LEGO pics."
